From teacher to trailblazer
Award winning comedian and international headliner Mina Hartong ( New York Comedy Festival, Joe's Pub, Olivia Travel) has performed on four continents and toured for over 20 years- Provincetown, Cipriani's, Montreal Fringe Festival- and dozens of clubs in New York and LA. She was a finalist for the National Ladies of Laughter Contest and Curve Magazine named her one of America’s Funniest Lesbians alongside comedy icons Suzanne Westenhoefer, Tig Notaro, Marga Gomez and Karen Williams. She started her comedy career by accident when she performed at an open mike in Amsterdam in the 1995 and cracked jokes about locking her bike in the rain. She didn’t know it was a contest, and she won! That became her first solo show Wet, Dykey and American which debuted in Amsterdam at the Gay Games in 1998. She went on to write three more solo shows, including award winning Mimi’s Wedding that had an extended run in Provincetown and was named Best of the Fringe in Minneapolis. She recently headlined for Olivia Travel in Cancun and Tahiti, sharing the bill with Gina Yashere. She will headline with Olilvia again in Greece in 2025. She was featured at the New York Comedy Festival in 2024. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Mina reinvented herslef and relocated to Palm Springs,CA to escape the pandemic in New York City. A short year later, she started her own show Lez Out Loud that sold out ten times, one show in the same day.
Mina is also a lifelong educator. She continues to teach comedy all over the country, taught Theater in the NYC public schools for 20 years, and is a proud mentor for the Arthur Miller Foundation. She facilitates private coaching for new comics, and classes in comedy and storytelling for various populations, including programs for the incarcerated in the New York area. She is based in New York City and a holds a Masters in Arts Education from Harvard University.
